Rest for five minutes, position your arm and cuff correctly, and follow these steps for accurate readings.
Avoid caffeine, smoking and exercise for 30 minutes before measuring. Sit quietly for five minutes with your back supported and feet flat on the floor.
Place the cuff on bare skin, about two centimeters above the elbow, with the tube running down the center of your arm. Rest your arm on a table so the cuff is at heart level.
Do not talk or move during the measurement. Take two or three readings one minute apart and record the average.
Measure at the same times each day, ideally morning and evening, and bring your log to every doctor visit.
