Proper Blood Sugar Management at Home
6 min read
When to measure glycemia, how to keep a log, and what to eat for stable blood sugar.
Regular monitoring is the foundation of good diabetes care. Most people measure fasting blood sugar in the morning and again two hours after main meals. Your doctor will set your personal targets.
Keep a simple log with the date, time, reading, meal and any physical activity. Patterns become visible within a couple of weeks and help your care team adjust treatment.
Choose low glycemic index foods: whole grains, legumes, non-starchy vegetables, nuts and lean proteins. Avoid sugary drinks and pair carbohydrates with fiber or protein to slow absorption.
Always wash your hands before testing, rotate fingertips, and store test strips in a dry place at room temperature.
